01

## Ask about the site early

Ecological input is most useful when the design still has room to respond. Begin by sharing a site plan, proposed changes and the programme with a qualified ecologist.

02

## Understand the information needs

Existing reports may answer some questions and raise others. Discuss their age, coverage and relevance to the current proposal before assuming the information is complete.

03

## Discuss seasonality with a specialist

Survey timing depends on the purpose, species, habitat and methods. Agree a site-specific programme with the responsible specialist. The example calendar in this theme is a layout demonstration, not survey guidance.

04

## Keep the design conversation connected

Share emerging findings with the wider team and record assumptions clearly. Regular discussion can help the team understand what further information is needed before a decision.
